How to Make Your Own Chocolate Bar

This method is so easy that you wouldn’t think at first that it would make good chocolate, but you would be wrong. It does.

For the basic mix you only need four main ingredients, let’s go through them:-

Vegetable Fat
I use Trex, which is readily available in the UK, Copha is also used but basically any solidified vegetable oil can be used.

Cocoa Powder
I use Bourneville, but again any cocoa powder but make sure it’s a good one.

 Icing Sugar
Not much to be said there.

Powdered Milk
You can use skimmed, semi skimmed or full fat which ever you feel comfortable with.

Vanilla Extract
Just a little added flavour

The beauty of this is that once you have made the basic mix you can adjust the ingredients to your taste, and add other ingredients such as nuts, rum and raisins and so on.

So, here’s what you will need for the basic mix:-

200gm Trex (vegetable fat)
100gm Powdered Milk
80gm Cocoa Powder
100gm Icing Sugar
2 tsp Vanilla Extract

So here we go:-

Melt the Trex in a pan on a medium heat, while that’s going on sift the cocoa, sugar and the powdered milk into a bowl and mix well.

Then pour in the melted Trex and mix into a paste, this will be quite a runny mix but don’t worry it will set. Keep stirring it (don’t whisk you don’t want bubbles) just keep stirring and scraping off the sides to get it as smooth as you can, then add the vanilla extract and stir it in.
If you are mixing for a long time it may start to set and become difficult to stir, if this happens just melt a little more Trex in a pan and add it to the mix and carry on.

Then pour it into a baking tray so that it will be at least ½ a centimetre deep or more depending on how thick you want the block of chocolate.

Then place it in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight.

It tastes great, but if it’s too grainy for your liking then re-melt it and mix it some more.

Then set it again in the way you did when making it the first time.

Now you have the basic block here's how to make your own chocolate sauce
